- * Glutamate 5-kinase signature *
- ********************************
-
- Glutamate 5-kinase (EC 2.7.2.11) (gamma-glutamyl kinase) (GK) is the enzyme
- that catalyzes the first step in the biosynthesis of proline from glutamate,
- the ATP-dependent phosphorylation of L-glutamate into L-glutamate 5-phosphate.
-
- The sequence of GK from eubacteria (gene proB), yeast [1] (gene PRO1) and a
- plant bifunctional enzyme (P5CS) [2] shows a high degree of conservation. As a
- signature pattern, we selected a highly conserved glycine-and alanine-rich
- region located in the central section of these enzymes.
-
- -Consensus pattern: S-x(2)-G-x-G-G-M-x-[AT]-K-[LIVM]-x-A-A-x(2)-A-x(2)-A-G
- -Sequences known to belong to this class detected by the pattern: ALL.
- -Other sequence(s) detected in SWISS-PROT: NONE.
- -Last update: October 1993 / First entry.
